As you can see from the pictures, we can take an antique pool table and fully restore it from the ground up!
The cushions on a pool table rebound the balls while maintaining their kinetic energy. No part of a pool table has more effect on the quality of play then these six rubber components!
Unlike other pool table installation and repair companies that save time by installing new cushions on site, we re-cushion all rails in the shop. This requires that we make a second trip to the job site. At the shop, we clean and prep the rails and attach the new rubber one day, then we let the glue set overnight before trimming, facing, and finely re-felting. We take 2 days to do what most companies rush through in a couple of hours, but we take pride in doing this job well. We know that the cushions are the “engine” of the table, and doing this job right is worth the extra effort!
You can tell when your table is ready for new cushions by walking around the table and pressing into the cushions every 2 or 3 inches. You should feel a little bit of give when you press in. If the cushions have started to harden it will feel like you are pressing against wood.
When the ball strikes a dead, spent cushion it does not rebound smoothly and the play on the table becomes unpredictable. Playing on a table with hardened rubber will eventually wear out the felt along the rail, cutting the cloth against these hardened corners.
In order to re-bumper or re-cushion your pool table, the felt on the rails has to be removed and can NOT be reused. The felt on the bed can be reused, but getting an exact color match with felt from different fabric bolts as well as matching the faded color of felt that has been on a table for a few years can be very difficult, so it is usually best to replace all the table cloth when replacing the cushions.
Temecula Valley Billiards uses a cushion grade that lasts 15-20 years for all our cushion replacements.
